The 2022 IODA Conference – Barcelona

September 30 @ 8:00 October 2 @ 17:00

Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn’t be detected. Try reloading the page.

We are happy to announce that our annual IODA Conference is back! After three years of virtual events we are excited to meet you all in person in Barcelona!

Our intent with this 2022 edition is to return to some grassroots principles that have been part of IODA since its formation in 1987 – affordable, communal, collegial, international. These are the characteristics that make IODA great – our sense of community, being together, sharing expertise, laughing, dancing and exploring new cultures.

  • Self-organising principles – low key, participative and community experience
  • Create a sense of community with opportunities to get to know each other
  • Meet people from the local community
  • Everyone contributes to program sessions – participating in and facilitating sessions
  • Conference costs and individual registration fees to be kept as low as possible
  • Participants are responsible for booking their own accommodation and meals

Conference Venue

We are excited to have secured a beautiful venue packed with history for our 2022 Annual Conference. The event will take place at Martí-Codolar – Av. del Cardenal Vidal i Barraquer, 15, 08035 Barcelona (Directions).

The land currently occupied by the Martí-Codolar Salesian Seminary, formerly known as Granja Vella, has a long history that begins in the 15th century. From a rural farmhouse to a residential palace for members of the Catalan bourgeoisie, Luis Martí-Codolar housed his collection of exotic animals there. Among them an elephant, a giraffe and lots of exotic birds that would, one day, give rise to the Zoo of Barcelona in 1892. The farm witnessed illustrious visits from Spanish Kings Fernando VII and Alfonso XIII as well as that of Don Juan Bosco in 1886 which would finally lead to the transfer of property to the Salesian community in 1946. The congregation of the Salesians entered in 1949 and inaugurated the seminary. Today, the Martí-Codolar offers a variety of different spaces for meetings and events as well as a guest house/hostel where you are more than welcome to stay during the event.

Please visit the venue website for information about accommodation options, parking, travel options to the venue – with links to all the relevant sites.

Please note, in the spirit of keeping the conference affordable and flexible, only tea and coffee breaks will be included. Participants will be encouraged to get to know each other in small groups over meals and enjoy the wonderful options that Barcelona has to offer.

Accommodation

Please note event attendees will be responsible for booking their own accommodation during the Conference.

The Martí-Codolar has 54 double & single rooms, as well as 6 triple & quadruple rooms available for participants. For more information and to book, please visit their website, complete the registration request and email it back to the venue. You will get a response from the venue confirming your request (or not, if rooms are no longer available), and they will ask you for payment details. Please phone the venue if you prefer to provide details in a more secure way.

For more accommodation options we suggest going to your preferred accommodation booking sites.

Contribute to a concurrent session

Due to covid restrictions and variable conditions around the globe, the decision to have a conference this year was made later than usual. We’re so excited to once again provide a place for people to get together. Our conference in Barcelona will be focusing on multiple ways for people to share their OD experiences, work practices and also have time to socialise and experience the wonderful culture of Barcelona.

Concurrent sessions have been a significant part of all our conferences over the years and this tradition will be honoured this year as well. Here are the key points to consider if you are interested in facilitating a session this year:

  1. If you wish to lead a session please make sure you have registered to attend the conference, then please fill in this form giving us some details about what you intend to do during your session.
  2. Bring whatever materials you may need for your session, ie. handouts, whiteboard markers, etc. or be prepared to potentially pay for any photocopying required.
  3. Four breakout rooms will be available and equipped with wifi and data projectors, though do also consider the use of the beautiful gardens at the venue as a part of the learning experience.

If you have any further questions, please get in touch with the organizing committee at events@iodanet.org.
