Mission Statement

The Journal of International Organization Development (JIOD) is dedicated to advancing the theory, research, and practice of organization development across global contexts. The journal serves as a bridge between scholars and practitioners, fostering dialogue that deepens understanding and enhances the effectiveness of OD interventions worldwide.

The Journal publishes original research, case studies, conceptual papers, and reflective practice articles that explore the dynamics of organizational change, leadership, culture, learning, and systems transformation. With an emphasis on cross-cultural perspectives and evidence-informed practice, the journal seeks to illuminate how OD principles are applied and adapted in diverse organizational, social, and cultural settings.

Our mission is to promote ethical, inclusive, and sustainable approaches to change that contribute to human and organizational flourishing. By connecting theory and practice, JIOD aims to strengthen the global OD community and inspire innovation in the ways organizations evolve, learn, and lead for the common good.

Call for Submissions

The Journal of International Organization Development (JIOD) invites submissions for upcoming issues focused on advancing the understanding and practice of organization development (OD) in a rapidly changing global context. JIOD welcomes contributions from both scholars and practitioners who are committed to exploring how organizations grow, adapt, and transform through learning, collaboration, and purposeful change.

Deadline for submissions for the inaugural issue: November 15, 2026. Following the inaugural issue, JIOD will accept articles on a rolling basis for consideration in future issues.

We seek articles that bridge theory and practice, reflect international perspectives, and contribute to the evolving discourse in OD, learning, and leadership. Submissions may include empirical research, conceptual or theoretical papers, case studies, reflective essays, or innovative practice reports.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Global and cross-cultural OD practice
  • Leadership, change, and organizational learning
  • Action research and participatory inquiry
  • Technology, AI, and digital transformation in OD
  • Ethics, social responsibility, and sustainable development
  • Facilitation, dialogue, and group process methods
  • Evaluation and measurement of change initiatives
  • Emerging trends and future directions in OD

JIOD particularly welcomes manuscripts that highlight international and multicultural perspectives, demonstrate collaborative approaches, and offer actionable insights for both academics and practitioners.

By publishing in JIOD, contributors become part of an international community of OD professionals, educators, and scholars committed to advancing learning and leadership for positive organizational and societal change.

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES
  1. Research Articles (6,000–8,000 words)
    • Empirical, theoretical, or mixed-methods studies advancing OD scholarship.
  2. Practice & Application Articles (3,000–5,000 words)
    • Case studies, project reports, or reflective essays on real-world OD and learning interventions.
  3. Dialogues & Perspectives (1,500–3,000 words)
    • Short, thought-provoking essays or interviews connecting emerging trends with OD practice.
  4. Book Reviews (1,000–1,500 words)
    • Reviews of recent and relevant publications in OD, learning, or leadership.

All articles should:

  • Clearly state the purpose of the article and its content
  • Present ideas logically, with clear transitions
  • Include section headings to help guide readers
  • Use language that reflects inclusivity and is non-discriminatory in the context of the article
  • Avoid jargon and overly formal expressions
  • Reference sources used and provide source references for any theories, ideas, methods, models and practices not created by the author(s)
  • Conform to standard English usage (U.S. or U.K.) and be edited for spelling and grammar rules
  • Avoid self-promotion
  • Be useful in practice or provide implications for practitioners (leaders, change agents, etc.)
  • For formatting guidelines, citations and references, follow the American Psychological Association Publication Manual, 7th Edition (2020)
  • Graphics that enhance an article are encouraged. The Journal reserves the right to resize graphics when necessary. The graphics should be in a program that allows editing. We prefer graphics to match the Journal’s three-, two-, or one-column, half-page or full-page formats. If authors have questions or concerns about graphics or computer art, please contact the Editor.

We consider articles of varying lengths between 2000–5000 words. Contact the Editor with any questions, ideas or explorations.

How to Submit:
 
  • Software: Use Microsoft Word® or a Word-compatible program for the manuscript (not a PDF).
Your submission should contain the following items as individual files:
  • Blind review copy: Submit the article, including a title page (with author names removed), abstract, all figures and tables, and a list of references. Please ensure references to the authors are kept to a minimum in the content.
  • Edited copy: To the blind review copy, add author name(s) and high-level contact and affiliation information to the title page. You may include your ORCID reference here as well.
  • PDFs of Camera-Ready Figures and Tables: As individual files, formatted and clear enough for printing. (See details below.)
  • Photo: For each author, submit a digital photo that is a clear, in-focus, mid-chest and head image (JPEG format, at least 300 dpi or 1MB). Photos must be submitted in separate files, not embedded in a document.
  • Biography: Submit a short (50-75 word) biography for each author. Each biography may include (as word limit permits):

  3. Academic and/or corporate experience in OD
  4. Professional focus in OD (e.g., professional or theoretical approach)

APA-7 BASICS:
 
  • Title page: Include a separate title page. Titles cannot exceed 12 words in length.
  • No Introduction: APA7 does not include a section titled “Introduction.”
  • Headings: The article title (in bold) should be the first line of the first page of your article (Heading 1, centered). Mark headings by level from the style menu, i.e., Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3, following APA style guidelines.
  • Text style: Titles should be bold-faced. The body text should be Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, with one space following the period at the end of each sentence. Margins should be justified to left side only (ragged right), with paragraphs indented ½ inch (1.27 cm).
  • Citations and references: Include up to five pages of references (may be single-spaced).  Strictly follow the APA 7 style guide for format. To reduce the number of editorial inquiries, follow these tips:
  • In the “Reference” section, include all sources cited in the body of the paper, and list only the sources cited in the text.
  • In the body of the paper, make it clear whether the discussion is your commentary or that of the authors you cite.
  • Check the spelling of authors’ names.
  • For in-text citations, include page numbers for all direct quotations.
  • Reread your article carefully for misstatements, omissions, and other errors.
  • Test all links and Digital Object Identifiers (DOI) to ensure they are valid.
  • Ensure that any use of large language models or other artificial intelligence capabilities is cited per APA guidelines

Eligibility
 
Potential reviewers should hold a doctoral degree or possess significant professional expertise in a field relevant to the journal’s scope. Advanced doctoral candidates with demonstrated research experience may also be considered.
